Accessibility is the reason AmeriDisability.Directory exists, so we hold this site to the same standard we ask of the resources we list. We are committed to making the directory usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology.
Conformance Status
AmeriDisability.Directory aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These international guidelines explain how to make digital content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities. We regularly test the site against this standard and work to fix any issues we find.
Measures We Take
Accessibility is built into how this site is designed and maintained. Specific measures include:
- Full keyboard navigation, with a visible focus indicator on every link, button, and field
- A “skip to content” link and clear, logically ordered headings
- Screen-reader support through semantic markup and labeled form controls
- A keyboard-accessible list alternative for every map, so no information depends on the map alone
- Color contrast that meets or exceeds WCAG AA, with no meaning conveyed by color alone
- Text that can be resized and reflowed without breaking the layout
- Descriptive link text and alternative text for meaningful images
- Respect for the “reduced motion” preference and no autoplaying media
How We Test
We assess accessibility using both automated tools and manual checks, including keyboard-only navigation and screen-reader testing (such as NVDA and VoiceOver). The site is designed to work with current versions of major browsers and common assistive technologies. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we review the site regularly as we add features and listings.
Third-Party Content
Our directory links to — and sometimes displays maps or information from — websites operated by other organizations. We do not control those third-party sites and cannot guarantee their accessibility. If you find that a listed resource is inaccessible, please tell us; we will note it and, where possible, help you find an alternative.
